How to Go Solo Skydive

Have you ever considered getting solo skydiving in Melbourne, Australia? Doing it solo is extremely dangerous, so is getting a group of friends together for a session. But if you are solo then you can get away with much more risk and more fun! Here are some tips that will help you get started.

Weather Permitting. Before you get your solo skydiving in Melbourne, make sure the weather is still acceptable for at least one hour out of the day. If it's sunny and warm then you should be fine, but if it's windy and stormy then the skies can clear up really quick and you could find yourself in trouble. The first jump course in my experience is usually done on a sunny but windy day, but you never know when the weather might change. If in doubt check the weather permitting instructions from your instructor before you leave for your first jump course.

Equipment and Aircraft Hire. There are many different aircraft to choose from when doing a solo skydive in Victoria. Two of the most popular include both single and tandem wings, and parachutes. Depending on what you want to do, you may not need additional equipment. The two-day training course that I used included all you need for solo skydiving, a spotter for your jump, a helicopter if one is available, and an instructor that will teach you the basics of skydiving as well as how to get out of a crashing position.

Stages for the solo skydive are determined by the size of the jump you are requesting. There are two types of jumps, accelerated and slower. Accelerated stages are shorter and more elaborate than slower stages. The accelerated licence course covers everything from preparing yourself for the jump, to pre-flight checks and everything in between. The accelerated training course does not include the actual solo skydive itself.

parachute rental. Because a solo skydive involves an inflatable vehicle (skydiving gear) it is not feasible to rent a parachute from the airport. Instead you will need to rent a full day or two length parachute from a parachute rental company. It is possible to rent a full-day course that includes the use of a parachute, or go solo and pay the corresponding fee for just the use of a parachute.

Freefall University Level 1 Certification. You can also take a freefall university level one certification course to qualify for your solo skydive, which is very helpful if you are considering a jump because you know what is involved. The course consists of two parts. The first part focuses on safe ground operations. The second part of the course focuses on how to get into the sky.
